Training

In today’s world of public image and accountability and responsible four wheel driving in a sustainable environment, it is vital that all drivers intending to participate on a MJOC 4WD trip have a consistent level of driving skills to suit the conditions likely to be encountered.

The MJOC Driver Training Program is designed to not only teach you the techniques necessary to develop a proficient level of skill and experience, but you’ll also learn how to drive off-road without causing damage or undue stress to your vehicle.

Under the guidance of our experienced instructors, you’ll learn about your Jeep 4WD system and many other facets of 4 Wheeling including:

  • Responsible driving
  • Club rules and guidelines
  • The environment
  • Mechanical sympathy
  • Vehicle capabilities
  • Trip preparation
  • Types of terrain
  • Driving techniques (stall start recovery, hill climbs, descents, gear selection, etc)
  • Recovery techniques and precautions.

At each stage, you’ll have the opportunity to practice the techniques until you feel confident in their application. As your skills improve, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in more advanced training courses, covering winch recoveries and other techniques.

To attend MJOC club trips all members must complete the MJOC Driver Training Program or show documented eveidence of completing a similar training course such as Four Wheel Drive Victoria or other 4WD Club or professional training.
