Trip Report – A day out with the MJOC Training Crew

09 Sep Trip Report | Comments Off on Trip Report – A day out with the MJOC Training Crew

All MJOC Members are required to have some basic training prior to going on club trips and the MJOC Basic Driver Training covers all you need to get out on the trails with the club. The practical component of the training is done in the forests around Narbethong, Buxton and Marysville, which is known locally as “the triangle”.

The training includes an evening of theory on the Friday prior which covers general information about the club and all aspects of driver skills and vehicle components with an emphasis on Jeep 4×4 systems and technology.

The practical training starts out with communication and convoy procedures and a scenic drive from the Healesville meeting point over the Black Spur to Buxton where we have a presentation of recovery equipment and inspection of vehicles before we head off into the nearby forest. The training is an all day affair and includes a variety of obstacles and terrain likely to be encountered on club trips. Our experienced trainers are all club Trip Leaders and have a wealth of knowledge about all the various Jeep models and their capabilities.

The training includes climbing and descending hills and the techniques required to do this safely, side angles, ruts, mud, water crossings, rocks and vehicle recovery exercises. The day concludes with a final drive through the ranges enabling all the new skills to be put into practice before heading for home at the end of the day.

The MJOC training is included in club membership and we also offer more advanced training and winching as well as Trip Leader Training.

Another great reason to join our club and complete your Jeep experience.
