Cape York Trip Map

This stage takes a scenic route to Cairns and runs for a duration of 11 days including a rest day in Cairns.  If you are time poor you are very welcome to join us in Cairns for the commencement of Stage 2 where we will explore Cape York and Thursday Island.

The trip is partitioned into four distinct stages and you are welcome to join us on all or only one or two of the stages.  The stages are:

Stage 1 - Melbourne to Cairns via Bourke, Longreach, Winton, Innot Hot Springs and the Undara Volcanic NP;

Stage 2. - Cape York and Thursday Island;

Stage 3 - The Gulf of Carpentaria and

Stage 4 - Home via Tennant Creek, Mount Isa, Boulia, Birdsville, Innamincka, Cameron Corner and Broken Hill.

Stage 1 is easy and suitable for caravans, however, some of the tracks in Stages 2, 3 and 4 are difficult and suitable only for off road camper trailers.  Typically the best time to visit Cape York and the Top End is between May and September.  In May the water crossings will generally be deeper whilst heading into September the weather will be hotter.
